As I was doing yoga, my Down Dog yoga app played this slow soft piano song with beautiful openings just as we were winding down the practice and it was perfection! So simple, yet ethereal. It entranced me and led me into one hell of a peaceful Shavasana.

I looked up to see who the song/artist was but after I ended the practice, for some reason, I could only remember the name “Sia”. However, the only song of “Sia’s” that I knew of was “Breathe me”, which is, as I came to find out, a relatively softer and slower piece for her. So, at the time I thought mayybee…but after going through her songs, I soon realized there is no way that “Sia” authored that song.

I wanted to figure out what the song was. My craving to listen to that particular song was imminent. I needed to listen to it. So, there was no question in my mind that I would search for this song until I found it.

Since I knew that it frequently played on the Down Dog Yoga app, I started up my app and downloaded multiple practices just to skip through the songs to see if I could find it. However, the app will only let you skip a minimum of around six songs before it tells you off. So I had to take another approach.

Next, I did what I probably should have done first, I googled it.  I googled “down dog yoga app songs” and actually found out that jayplemons, on Spotify has a Down Dog Yoga playlist with songs frequently played on the Down Dog Yoga app.

AND THERE IT WAS…”Space”, the beautiful, amazing song I was looking for all this time!

Thank you jayplemons! I owe you one.

“Space” is by an admirable and beautiful Norwegian lady named Siv Jakobsen. To describe her music, I think a couple metaphors are appropriate:

“Her music reminds me of deep waters that are turbulent at the surface but become hushed as you go deeper.”

“It can be shocking at first, like jumping into a cold lake, but then you become more comfortable as your body adjusts to the temperature. You adjust, and sink into it, letting her voice create the ambiance.”

If you want more description, I suggest reading the about page on her website, I really like what others have written about her.  You can find all her lyrics and videos there as well.

In particular, I love the song “Space” because I can totally relate to it. Falling intensely for someone but then questioning if they even have room in their life for you? Wondering if it’s right? The vulnerability of this position brings in waves of fear and doubt. Figuring that out is an intense part of any relationship.

And I just love that she sings about it!! It is a fear that I have a hard time even admitting to myself when I am in a relationship, but here she is singing the truth to the world, and it’s wonderful! I guess that is the beauty of Siv’s music, it is her honesty of human emotion and life that we can all relate to. Like it says on her about page, “Siv’s music is beautifully mellow, much like diary-entries – filled with unfiltered thoughts and reflections.” I completely agree and that is why I love her music.

SPACE

In the night

By your side

On the bed

We are mighty, we are lust we are

We are light

Bring me in

On your skin

Trace me down

In your gaze, in your mind is there space for me?

In the light

Of the day

All is quiet

I’m a mess, you’re a pile and it’s not

It’s not right
