A kind of dark poem inspired by the systems of real-life and triggered by a beautiful song that I actually love, Vienna Waits by Billy Joel. If you don’t know the lyrics to Vienna Waits you should google it because they are sweet. However, this poem is not.

Slow down you crazy child!

How did life evade you?

Your passion carefully manufactured by others.

So sick to your stomach it churns and rolls.

But your youthful ambitions…

Ha! Ambitions!

Ambitions to save the planet.

More like ambitions to blow your brains out.

Ha! Ambitions!

Stop your ambitions! If you don’t wait and listen you will miss your cue.

Constantly striving.

Progressing away from life.

Who dealt us this sick mindset?

Twisted and admirable.

Grotesque and impressive.

Progress and motivation you say?

Useless nonsense. Creator of desire and disease.

Inexplicable loathing for your sick factory of human machines

Programmed to program your life. Programmed your parents to program you.

Treated, insured, sheltered, and robotic.

Are you ready to stand up?

…why are you still so afraid?

Too scared of what lies on the other side.

Loneliness? It’s loneliness you fear.

Discomfort?

Depression?

Hey, no worries, where’s the fires? What’s the hurry about?

You can lay the cool metal to skin. Armored and sheltered. Robotic and unseen.

No worries, carry -on, write your to-do list and forget about it.

Vienna waits for you.
