Each week I get a copy of my absolute favorite magazine, The New Yorker. I look forward to opening up each issue to find a new movie, artist, or musician to check out. When I opened up the latest issue of The New Yorker, an image of the indie rock band, Bad Bad Hats, caught my attention.

After my long-term, intense, love affair with French band, La Femme, I was ready for a change. So I threw on my new headphones and rocked out to the Bad Bad Hat’s most recent 2015 album, Psychic Reader. I was immediately impressed with the full sounding instrumentals topped with Kerry Alexander’s sweet voice singing punk lyrics.

As I was listening to Psychic Reader, and groovin’ to the strong and steady beats of the drum and bass, I couldn’t help but think of Karen O and Yeah Yeah Yeah’s. Especially, during the track “Shame”, which is undoubtedly my favorite song on the album. The catchy guitar riff makes me wanna rock-pop it out! The lively, rock flavor, reminds me of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s more upbeat dance songs.

I have to say Psychic Reader is definitely a level up from their EP, It Hurts. Check it out if you are looking for some fun, poppy, indie rock music. This Minneapolis-based band brought refreshing change to my current music library. So thankful to The New Yorker for introducing me to Bad Bad Hats.
