Five planes in five days. Are you wondering where?

Detriot to Chicago, Chicago to Istanbul, Istanbul to Cappadocia, Cappadocia to Istanbul, Istanbul to Mumbai.

Cappadocia, Turkey

Oh yea, and did I mention that I did all this traveling with my parents? Don’t get me wrong, my parents are great, although cultural differences preside, any 25-year-old could image my pain.

If it wasn’t for music, perhaps I would have been in the airports running around in circles, naked and screaming like a wild animal, dodging tasers from security. I said perhaps….

Music was crucial for me in order to take a step outside of the hustle and bustle of the crowded airports and just chill…..

…..plug the headphones in and ahhhh….there is nothing like listening to the cool tunes of “Kind of Blue” by Miles Davis while awaiting your flight. Watching all these different people from different places come and go. It can provide you with a sense of ease in a noisy, overcrowded environment. This soundtrack to your life helps you notice the exquisiteness of the experience. Like the beautiful smile of the exotic girl right across from you shining perfectly to the almost sadly romantic track “Blue in Green”.

After boarding the plane in Detriot to head to Chicago I become a little nervous for lift off. For me, imaging everything going smoothly doesn’t do me as much justice as imaging everything going wrong. I feel like I am kidding myself if I do.

So, to image the worst, I play a sort-of cinematic movie in my head. The soundtrack to my movie is crucial. I need narrative music for this action-packed thriller. My go to for cinematic music is alt-J. Yes, my obsession with them runs deep (see previous posts).

“Fitzpleasure” an epic song by alt-J is perfect for these moments leading up to lift off. I am sitting quietly in coach looking out the window. The plane starts to roll and my stomach churns, “tralala, tralala, tralala…”, the plane gains speed, my toes curl and my heart rate increases slightly, ….the build up, enter Joe Newmans voice, I clench….aaannnndd lift off, boom drop the heavy synth and my imagination goes wild! (I will spare you the graphic details of my imagination, lets get to know each other a little better first, before I let you too deep into my head.)

What do you listen to during lift off? Do you like more soothing and relaxing music or are you like me and go for the action-packed song? Comment below and let me know!

Peace, love and rock and roll ya’ll
