In the midst of the constant stream of fabulous music…there must come a period of silence. Silence acts as a neutralizer, clearing out the sequence of sounds that get stuck in your head day after day. Silence is like a q-tip to the ears. Moving the mishmash of music out. This clearing leaves us open to perceive music, old or new, in a different way. So that each vibration is new to us in that moment. In this way, old music that you listened to too much can become beautiful and new again. Like hearing Blackbird for the first time.
Try it, maybe go a couple days or a couple weeks without listening to music. Try to find a place where you can get some peace and quiet everyday, let your ears attune to the silence (or as close as you can get to it). Then put on a good pair of headphones, and come back to the sweet sounding tunes. If you try it, leave a comment and let me know what you think.
