My fascination with Aphex Twin runs deep. Aphex Twin started my journey into electronic music. His music, ambient, intermingled with harsh schizophrenic-like noises twisted my world. For a brain that is always bouncing off the walls like mine, I dug it. It made sense.
I recently discovered that Aphex Twin released a newer album called Syro, 13 years after his last album Drukqs, released in 2001. Obviously, since being previously oblivious to such important news, I listened to the album right away.
In Aphex Twin fashion… memories from a past obsession flooded back! His staple, signature noises are there, rearranged in an upbeat, even more, schizophrenic-like arrangement with less of the harshness. The last song, is his soothing piano work, a good way to end the album.
Unlike many of his other albums I found it difficult to pick out a unique signature that makes the album stand out.
